What were the main themes addressed during your today speech, May 28, 2024, at the Village Pavillion in MIND on occasion of the workshop organized by Federated Innovation and Lendlease?
In my speech today, I talked about the importance of the new campus that we are going to build at MIND for the Università Statale di Milano. The project is part of a vision of the University strongly oriented towards innovation, investing in the development of research and teaching infrastructure and student services in line with the highest international standards. Specifically, we discussed the missions and actions we can develop together with the companies present at MIND, ranging from career and professional orientation to service provision, doctoral programs, and collaborative research projects.
What are the objectives behind the decision to move the university's scientific campus to MIND?
The idea of the MIND campus was born in 2014, reflecting on the fact that the scientific and teaching facilities of Città Studi are currently excessively fragmented and in need of a comprehensive technological renewal, making the idea of a restructuring unsustainable. The area where Expo 2015 was held has been designated as an innovation district, and within this context, the “Statale”, also financially supported by the Regione Lombardia and the Government, proposed the creation of a new scientific campus.
The Università Statale di Milano is therefore looking to the future, and MIND represents the ambitious goal of creating a cutting-edge campus in the national and international context, with advanced technological infrastructures for research and teaching, and significant potential for scientific collaboration and aggregation, both within the University and with other actors in the Milano Innovation District. Campus MIND is the main innovation project of the University and is set to host, starting from the academic year 2027/2028, many of the scientific departments currently based in Città Studi and their respective courses, significantly enhancing the University's attractiveness for students and researchers.
The transfer of the University's scientific campus to MIND is based on a strategic vision aimed at promoting innovation, interdisciplinary research, and collaboration between the university, industry, and institutions. This choice aims to consolidate Milan's role as a hub of scientific and technological excellence, attract international talent and investments, and contribute to sustainable development and the advancement of knowledge and technology.
What synergies do you see between the member companies of Federated Innovation @MIND network and the university at MIND, both as a common ground for fostering innovative projects and for encouraging student participation in certain initiatives?
The creation of synergies between the companies involved in the Federated Innovation @MIND network and the University within MIND offers a wide range of opportunities to develop innovative projects and actively engage students in these initiatives. Companies can collaborate with the University to develop joint research and development projects, exchange knowledge, skills, and resources, and benefit from the University's advanced infrastructures and laboratories for testing and experimenting with new technologies and products. We can work with companies to offer students mentoring projects, internship opportunities, and to help University students and researchers transform their innovative ideas into successful startups.
