Modular prefab construction systems in a perspective of sustainability and circular economy
Initiative Description

Proposal of new prefab hybrid elements for structural slabs mixing wood and innovative concrete. Our goals:

  • minimization of the environmental impact of mixed technical solutions for construction – i.e. concrete produced with attention to environmental sustainability;
  • dry construction with mechanical connections between the prefab modules;
  • certified and constantly tracked materials through Track & Trace system.
Expected Output and Benefit
  • economic sustainability: significant cost reduction compared to an entirely wooden element; 
  • environmental sustainability: significant carbon footprint reduction compared to an entirely concrete element; 
  • the structural part of the slab gives a significant contribution to the acoustic performance - cost reduction of upper layers;
  • facilitated any performance of fire compartmentation thanks to the thickness of the concrete;
  • reduction of supply and installation of ordinary steel reinforcement;
  • better LCA final result;
  • new product development required for MIND and the market.

Timeline

Start Jan 2022

  • Concrete mix formulation - Mapei (recycled aggregates, cement low CFP)
  • Connection analysis – WoodBeton
  • Acoustic analysis to define all the layers above the structural slab - Saint-Gobain
  • Fire analysis to define optimal concrete thickness in the complete technical element

Start Jan 2023

  • Production of samples for testing
  • Identification of possible tests and their procedures

By Autumn 2023

  • Completion of structural tests: panel and connections between panels
  • Completion of acoustic tests + various tests
  • Completion of fire tests

Start Jan 2024

  • Product launch
